Caligiuri touts write-in candidacy for US House District 2

The Osceola Republican wants to replace Democratic Rep. Dave Loebsack.

Ginny Caligiuri will not appear on the June primary ballot as a Republican candidate for U.S. House District 2, but that has not kept her from campaigning to unseat Rep. Dave Loebsack.

Caligiuri addressed more than two dozen voters Thursday evening during the Des Moines County Republicans’ monthly meeting. She began by clarifying her southern drawl, telling the crowd she was raised in Texas but has lived the last 25 years in Iowa.

She now lives in Osceola in Clarke County, one of 24 southeastern and eastern counties located within Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District.

Caligiuri vows to stay in the 2nd congressional race

Ginny Caligiuri vowed Thursday to stay in the race in Iowa's 2nd congressional district, but her campaign hasn't yet followed through on a vow to challenge the state panel's decision to reject its petition to be on the June 5 Republican primary.

Caligiuri's campaign posted a statement on its web site Thursday, saying: "Although there are several options available to this campaign following the three person panel's decision regarding Ginny's candidacy on Tuesday, we have decided that regardless of which option we choose, GINNY CALIGIURI IS STILL RUNNING FOR CONGRESS IN IOWA'S 2ND CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT!!"

Shawn Zierke, Caligiuri's campaign manager, would not outline the options they're considering but raised the prospect of a write-in candidacy. She said Caligiuri, a business woman from Osceola, would not run an independent candidacy in the fall.

Meanwhile, Caligiuri continues to tour the district, her campaign said Thursday. Mail pieces were sent to people in four counties ahead of planned visits there next week, Zierke said. Caligiuri plans to be in Scott County on April 9 and 10.

Ginny is a pro-life, pro-2nd Amendment, pro-Israel, and pro-Constitution conservative running on the Republican ticket. The 2nd District elected Donald Trump, and Ginny plans to help him accomplish what he was elected to do.

The announcement is planned for 6pm on March 8, 2018, at Boyt Harness Company, located at 1 Boyt Drive in Osceola, IA. Boyt Harness Company has hosted campaign announcements for now Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds in her bid for the Iowa Senate, for current Iowa Senator Amy Sinclair and Iowa Representative Joel Fry.

Married to Tony Caligiuri, President of Boyt Harness Company in Osceola, for over 30 years, they have one son, Taaffe Caligiuri, also from Osceola. Ginny enjoys spending time with her family and their ten dogs. She and Tony have hosted many events on their farm in Osceola, including Governor Mike Huckabee in 2007 and Don Trump Jr. and Eric Trump in 2016.

Caligiuri, pronounced Cal-a-jury, claims she is not a politician and has no plans to become one. She's going to be a voice of the people. When asked why she decided to run, she responded, “I want to see our country uphold the Constitution as it was originally intended by our Founding Fathers.”

Ginny will support Israel and work to strengthen relationships with our allies across the globe, while protecting our sovereignty as a nation. As the daughter of an army veteran, Caligiuri will work to untangle the health care backlog facing our older veterans and commit the resources to aid younger veterans as they return home to family and start new careers.

The office is currently held by Democrat Dave Loebsack. At this time, Dr. Chris Peters has also announced he will run again as a Republican for 2nd District. In 2016, the 2nd District went to Trump. In 2018, the 2nd District will have a true conservative choice for Congress on the Republican ticket with the announcement of Caligiuri. At this time, Caligiuri will have to challenge Peters in the Republican primary scheduled for June 5, 2018, with absentee voting starting late April 2018.

Caligiuri's campaign is planning a 24 County Listening Tour beginning March 19 and running through the end of April 2018 with scheduled stops in multiple locations within each county. “Ginny Gets Iowa” Campaign Manager, Laurie Morgan, says the schedule will be posted two weeks prior to each week’s visits on their website, Facebook page and published in your local county newspapers.

Fundraisers are currently scheduled in several locations throughout the district, including a large event in her hometown of Osceola, IA scheduled for March 22, 2018 at Honey Hill.
